Conjunctivitis, also known as “pink eye,” has been seeing a sudden and dramatic rise in instances in Lahore, which has raised concerns among residents of the city. There has been an increase in patients seeking medical attention as a result of this highly infectious eye infection spreading through different communities.
Alarming Increase in Contagious Pink-Eye Disease Spotted in Lahore
The eye illness has put a tremendous strain on the city’s healthcare system, as more than 500 people flood hospitals every day. Experts have determined that viral conjunctivitis is to blame and are raising the alarm about the possibility of future transmission if safety precautions are not taken.
Concerns have been raised concerning the severity of the epidemic due to the patients’ reports of severe redness, eye swelling, and profuse weeping. Notably, the virus is dispersing at an unheard-of velocity and is being transferred not only by direct touch but also by airborne particles and casual discussions.
Professor Asad Aslam, an ophthalmologist, emphasized the urgent need for preventive measures, stressing that the virus could spread readily through contact with contaminated surfaces, close quarters with infected people, and even through casual chats. To stop the spread of the illness, he encouraged individuals to put on safety goggles, immediately isolate beds and utensils, and use extreme caution.

Professor Aslam underlined the need for strict cleanliness practices in order to stop the spread of the infection. He said there was a high danger of transmission if a patient touched their infected eye and subsequently came into contact with other surfaces or people. The virus might linger on surfaces for protracted periods of time, he said.
Experts have warned that this eye infection is more common during the rainy season, thus inhabitants of Lahore must be vigilant and stick to cleanliness recommendations.
