Review of the Google Pixel 7 Pro: new camera king beats rivals

The Pixel 7 Pro offers a great camera and AI capabilities for substantially less money than Apple or Samsung, continuing Google’s recent success with premium smartphones.

The Pixel 7 Pro competes with gadgets that cost more than £1,100 at a price of £849 ($899/A$1,299), the same as the company’s top phone for 2021. It is the top model in Google’s phone lineup for 2022, which also includes the cheaper Pixel 6a and Pixel 7 (both £599).

From the front, the Pixel 7 Pro resembles its predecessor quite a bit thanks to its 6.7-inch diagonal, 120Hz OLED screen that is big, brilliant, and attractive. Turn it over, and you’ll see that Google’s camera bar across the rear is now elegantly covered in polished aluminium.

Although it is a fairly large phone, its 212g weight and curved edges make it somewhat slimmer and more comfortable to carry than other competitors. It has a really sturdy, high-quality feel.

The phone’s newest Tensor G2 processor from Google performs similarly to last year’s model overall but processes artificial intelligence (AI) much more quickly. The phone has a great sense of responsiveness, especially when using Google’s predictions that the Pixel 6 may be outperformed by up to 2.5 times when it comes to chores like dictating texts and other smart systems.

Similar to the Pixel 6 Pro, battery life is likewise comparable, lasting 34 to 36 hours between charges when the screen is set to its native FHD+ resolution and is used for roughly five hours each day. Although it falls short of the competition, it is adequate for a day of intensive use. Battery life was extended by roughly two hours by turning off the always-on display.
