YouTube Introduces Handles for Creators

YouTube introduces creator handles.

YouTube, an online video-streaming service, announced on Monday that channels will henceforth need to have their own distinctive usernames.

One of the few online communities that did not require users to have distinctive identities or handles was YouTube. Facebook and Twitter, for example, request that users use a handle that is specific to them.

Each channel must select its own @handle in addition to channel names. On the channel’s page and in the videos it broadcasts, this handle will be visible. According to YouTube, this would make it simpler for viewers to mention their channel in comments and community posts and even make it simpler for viewers to promote their channel through shootouts. The platform said it will let YouTube creators know next month when they may select their handle. The channel’s handle will also become its unique URL.

Because YouTube has so many channels, the transition will happen gradually. The number of subscribers a channel has, its overall YouTube presence, and whether it is active or not all affect when a creator will have access to the handles selection process, according to a statement from YouTube. Everyone will be able to select a handle by November 14. The Google support website stated that individuals who don’t chose will have a job automatically allocated to them.
