KARACHI: Arshad Nadeem’s withdrawal from his javelin throw competition on Tuesday dealt a severe setback to Pakistan’s chances of winning a gold medal at the upcoming Asian Games.
Arshad has notified the Pakistan contingent and the POA that he would not compete in the tournament owing to a persistent injury, according to a POA official.
Asian Games are off limits for Arshad Nadeem because of a knee ailment
On Wednesday night, Arshad was supposed to compete in the men’s javelin throw finals.
A statement claimed to Pakistan’s Chef de Mission, released by POA, said that Arshad complained of soreness in his knees after first session in Hangzhou.

According to the statement, “Mr. Arshad Nadeem revealed and complained to Dr. Asad Abbas who was accompanying him that he has been dealing with persistent pain for several months, a concern that has become particularly pressing in the wake of the World Athletics Championship, after arrival at Hangzhou at the first training session on September 27, 2023.
“On October 2nd, he once more complained of right knee soreness and stated that he wanted to get evaluated to see how it might affect his ability to compete in the javelin throw event. A thorough examination was advised by the Pakistani contingent’s chief medical officer.
At a nearby hospital in Hangzhou, Arshad Nadeem got a complete medical evaluation, which included a non-invasive test called an MRI. His long-standing ailment was discovered by the MRI.
The statement further stated that Arshad opted not to compete in the Asian Games after consulting medical professionals in order to avoid any undesirable circumstances that would interfere with his training and participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
